Creating a home which captures energy, purifies water, cleans air and enriches land while focusing on comfort, health and resilient communities.

HOME DESCRIPTION:

Creating a home that captures energy, purifies water, cleans air and enriches land while focusing on comfort, health and resilient communities. STEAM Design Studio and Residence was designed, deconstructed, rebuilt and managed by Timothy Heppner, who is the Executive Director of Ecotelligent Design.

Engineering was used to make an exceptional stormwater mitigation system including a vegetated roof, rain barrels, bioswales, rain gardens, water catchments and wetland reserves to mediate all precipitation. STEAM Design Studio encompasses the principles of solar management combining passive design, active systems and proven technologies to make this home net zero ready. This highly efficient HVAC system’s development was centered around radiant cooling and heating combined with a dedicated outdoor air system to provide remarkable comfort and IAQ.

Knowing building science and mathematics was important in order to accurately model a house’s radiant, convective and conductive heat flows to greatly reduce energy consumption.
