EHB Das Haus Front Elevation_preview.jpeg

This home was built to balance high performance, human health, and functional design for a young family of four.

HOUSE DESCRIPTION:
Located steps (358 to be precise) from the Ravinia Metra stop and 1408 steps to the renowned Ravinia Park, Das Haus, as it was dubbed by the homeowners who commissioned the project, is an example of modern day living in a walkable community.  The young family of four wanted to move to a commuter friendly location outside of the city, and wanted to live in a home that met the performance benchmarks, quality, design, and lifestyle that inspired them in Europe.  The Integrated Design Team of Evolutionary Home Builders, and Tom Bassett-Dilley Architect came together to work with our clients in order to achieve all of their goals, and within a budget on par with other new construction homes in their neighborhood.  What was not up for debate were the lofty performance goals and standards that the team set for the project.

The main areas focus on this project were livability for the family, health & wellness,  energy efficiency, sustainability, and lots of large windows to connect to the outdoors.  This project was detailed using Passive House principles: air tightness levels, continuous exterior insulation, and technologies; however not quite to the point of certification under that standard.  What does become very apparent when in the space is the ultra comfort , healthy environment, and the thoughtful design.  This all electric low energy home features a balanced fresh air ventilation system with heat recovery, ductless mini split heating / cooling, instantaneous hot water, energy monitoring, super insulation, European windows, reclaimed white oak flooring, toxin free materials and finishes throughout (FYI this is not the norm that it should be in modern construction), and all Net Zero Ready – plug and play and the energy bill goes away.

This home is an example of modern living, and truly sets a higher expectation for what a home can and should be!
