Focusing on highly energy efficient sustainable infill construction in the near west suburbs of Chicago.
This home is under construction and the tour will be done before drywall is installed so you can see what makes a home green behind the walls.
After finishing up Brookfield’s first Greenhab project at the beginning of the year, BrightLeaf Homes is showing off its first for-sale Greenfill project. Based on the concept of highly energy efficient homes with modern layouts on already developed lots in existing neighborhoods, 3637 Prairie will be the first new home constructed in Brookfield in a number of years.
The wrap around front porch and classic gables that blend in with the other homes on the block don’t hint at the air tight, energy efficient construction, the fully insulated R-29 walls and R-60 attic, the triple pane R-5 windows, or the energy efficient appliances and lighting. Efficiency aside, the open first floor plan, 4 bedrooms, and fully insulated but unfinished 8’ tall basement make this an appealing new home for anyone even without the sustainable aspects.
The sustainability focus of this project goes beyond the energy efficiency and includes low/no VOC materials and finishes, recycled content building materials, and the majority of trade partner sub contractors based within 10 miles of the project. Preliminarily rated at LEED-Gold and easily qualifying for Energy Star, this home will hopefully be the first of a local trend of highly energy efficient infill construction.
